James Lawford Davies was invited to speak at the 2025 Progress Educational Trust (PET) Annual Conference, “What Does Genomics Mean for Fertility Treatment?”, held in London.

James delivered a lecture titled “In a Class of Its Own? PGT‑A, Liability and Litigation”, addressing the regulatory framework and litigation risks associated with preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT‑A). His talk explored the legal responsibilities that arise when PGT‑A is used in fertility treatment, and the circumstances in which disputes may emerge for clinics, professionals and advisers.

PGT‑A sits at the intersection of rapidly developing genomic science, patient expectations and an evolving regulatory environment. James’s lecture examined how these pressures are reflected in current legal and regulatory approaches, and how courts may assess liability where clinical judgment, consent, and evidential standards are under scrutiny.

The conference was attended by a sold‑out audience and forms part of PET’s longstanding programme of high‑level public and professional engagement on fertility, genetics and assisted reproduction. The PET Annual Conference is widely regarded as a key forum for interdisciplinary discussion, bringing together clinicians, scientists, ethicists, policymakers and legal professionals to examine how advances in genomics are reshaping fertility treatment and patient care.

The Progress Educational Trust is a vital organisation within the sector, playing a leading role in promoting informed debate and public understanding of fertility and genetic science. Further information about PET and its work can be found here.
